2nd Annual Conference on Art and Philosophy

Join us for A New Path for Beauty: Shaping Tomorrow's Institutions, the second annual conference on art and philosophy hosted by the Roger Scruton Legacy Foundation in partnership with the Mathias Corvinus Collegium. This seminal event will unfold from 5-7 September 2024 at the historic Peterhouse, University of Cambridge, offering a unique blend of scholarly enquiry and artistic exploration.

Our theme confronts the myriad challenges facing our art institutions today—from the pressures of decolonisation initiatives and diversity and equity mandates to the rise of political art and the impact of vandalism. Against this backdrop, A New Path for Beauty proposes a visionary alternative, grounding the future of our public and private cultural institutions across the West in three foundational pillars: beauty, artistic excellence and creative free expression.

The conference will feature a dynamic programme including three keynote addresses from leading figures in the arts and public life, alongside a series of panels and discussions that promise to invigorate the debate and chart forward-thinking paths. Attendees will delve into topics spanning visual arts, performing arts, public art and architecture, the economics of art and the preservation of cultural heritage, all while exploring the overarching theme of reinvigorating beauty and excellence in our cultural institutions.

For those wishing to immerse themselves fully, overnight accommodations will be available at a nearby college for the nights of the 5th and 6th, allowing attendees to experience the conference and the historic beauty of Cambridge to the fullest.

In a special initiative to foster the next generation of thought leaders, the conference will also offer fellowships to a select group of young artists, academics and professionals from around the world. These fellowships will provide free accommodation, meals and registration, ensuring that emerging voices have a platform at this critical juncture for art and culture. More details and an application will be announced shortly.

A New Path for Beauty: Shaping Tomorrow's Institutions is more than a conference—it's a call to arms for those across the political spectrum looking to chart a new path for our culture and the institutions that steer them. Join us as we embark on this vital journey to redefine the landscape of the West’s cultural institutions for the future.
